Intro
Ballet for Beginners
Saturday 2:00-3:30pm
(Once a week)
This class
is ideal for students with no
dance or limited dance background.
It is truly an introduction to
classical ballet. This class teaches
the basics of alignment of the
body, basic exercises of the barre
and center. The students can expect
to learn all the fundamentals
that will form a basis for all
dance forms. Students develop
a technique which provides structure
to learn patterns, and a program
which translates into more safety,
self awareness
and clean technique. This class
preparesstudents for streneous
classes.
Ballet
I - Beginner & Up
Tue/Thu 5:00-6:30pm
(Twice
a week)
This medium
paced class picks right up from
Intro Ballet (students should
have a minimum of one year Intro
Ballet) extending your vocabulary,
learning to use your body as a
facility, and expounding on combinations
and placement. This class provides
a full ballet class and full body
workout, with room for questions
and corrections. Need to brush
up on skills learned one upon
a time? Come take this class and
get reacquainted with barre, beauty,
and grace...Beginning Ballet!
Ballet
II - Intermediate
Mon/Wed 5:00-6:30pm
(Twice
a week)
For the intermediate
student, this classical ballet class
is geared for dancers with at least
3+ years of ballet experience. This
is a structured ballet class that
focuses on building classical technique
through barre, center work, and
across the floor combinations. This
class works on building strength,
increasing your flexibility and
coordination, and improving musicality.
A great way to have fun and build
long, lean muscles!
Ballet III - Advanced
Tue 6:30-8:30pm/Sun 1:00-3:00pm
(Twice
a week)
Moving on
from the intermediate level, the
advanced level continues to develop
and maintain the student's overall
understanding of classical ballet.
In this class the student can expect
quicker tempos, more complicated
combinations, and more difficult
choreography. One will learn a clear
understanding of gravity, movement
quality and musical phrasing as
well as an extensive command of
the entire body. Dancers should
have at least 5+ years of classical
ballet training before taking this
class.
Pointe
Sunday 3:00-4:00pm
(Once a week)
An
intermediate class in which the
dancers will be asked to perform
exercises on their toes with the
assistance of special "pointe" shoes.
Pointe dancing will help develop
long, lean muscles, as well as a
certain grace needed to flit across
the stage, seemingly weightless.
A minimum of 3 years ballet training
is highly suggested for technically
strong dancers.

The Alexandria Ballet
School program is divided
into three divisions.
For
age 3 to 5 I have written
a syllabus called “Little
Dancers” This is a course
which uses many elements including
pre ballet, yoga stretches with
illustrating stories, dance locomotor
steps, and the stories and music
of classical and modern dance
with creative movement.
The age
6 to 9 groups use a syllabus
called “Young Dancers”.
In this program students technique
develops in complexity andcontrol
and moves closer to classical
ballet.
After the
age of 9 students study
classical ballet. I have made
my ballet classes a synthesis
of two ballet techniques.
The artistry and completeness
of the Vagonova (Russian, Kirov)
Technique combines well with the
safety and alignment conscious
Royal ballet (English) Technique.
Also the Royal Ballet’s
and Kirov Ballet’s un ostentatious
clean gestures translate into
all other dance forms as a framework
for building movement analysis
and memory.
The school traditions are to avoid
“fancy costumes”,
“long recitals”, and
“competitions”. The
students have very
simple recital costumes, which
can be worn the next year. We
keep the same recital outfit.
We have individual recitals for
each group of students on the
last class of May where friends
family and cameras are
welcome. These are in-studio where
the students are most comfortable.
This is our policy in order to
prioritize
technique, it also creates a positive
individualized approach, and dancers
who can choose to study professionally
based on a solid foundation.
